Oink – A Safe Online Payment Option for Kids & Teens

This post was written by me on behalf of Oink. All opinions are my own.

My son has been doing a lot more around the house now that it’s summer break. Each day I have been giving him different chores to complete and so far it has been going well. It’s a win-win for both of us — he is staying busy and earning extra money and it helps make my day a little easier. He has already been talking about what he wants to buy with his allowance and of course it’s all stuff that has to be ordered online.

The fact that he wants to use his allowance to buy things online makes things a little more complicated. I can’t just pay him in cash and let him buy what he wants. I basically end up “paying” him via my debit or credit card when I place his online order. I’ve always thought it would be nice if he had his own form of payment for online purchases, but since he is only 12 it’s not really an option. Thankfully, there is a solution!

Founded by Dr. Jo Webber — a quantum physicist AND a mom who saw the need for a way to provide her kids with tools that would help teach them to spend wisely, save and give back — Oink’s Virtual Piggy serves as a digital family wallet (available online or via mobile devices) that allows safe, secure transactions — all within parental controls.

I am really excited to give Oink a try. Besides being a convenient online payment option, I think it will be a great tool for teaching my son about money management. He is at the age where he wants to be more financially indepenent and I think this will be the perfect option, especially since it will still allow me to be in control every step of the way.
