A Letter to My Teen Son + Yoplait Go Big Contest

In just a few weeks, my son will be able to get his driver’s permit. I’m not sure if I should be happy, sad or scared. It seems like just yesterday he was starting Kindergarten and now he is a Freshman in high school. Where has the time gone? I’ve accepted the fact that he will be graduating in four years, but I’m still not quite ready for him to drive a car. This mama needs time to slow down. I’m not ready for my sweet boy to grow up just yet!

A Letter to My Teen Son

From the time my son was a baby, he has been such a joy to have. He’s smart, kind, athletic and funny. He never fails to make us laugh and his knowledge of history, particularly WWII, is incredible. He excels in the classroom and on the basketball court and baseball field. In the last few years, he’s taken up art and has created some beautiful masterpieces. He’s so unique and one-of-a-kind and I feel so blessed to have him in my life.

My son is amazing and inspires me to be a better person. To show him how much he means to me, I wrote him this letter:

Dear Son,

I can’t believe how quickly you have grown. It seems like just yesterday you were toddling around in your diaper, playing with your Spiderman toys and begging me to watch Little Nemo for the 209238058 time. Now you are a Freshman in high school and about to turn 15. Wow. Where has the time gone?

Part of me wishes I could hold back time — to keep you young forever — but another part of me can’t wait to see you continue to learn and grow. I love watching you play sports and you always amaze me with your knowledge of history. You are so smart and you have so much wisdom beyond your years.

There are so many things I love about you, son.

You are so kind, loving, and respectful. You have a huge heart and truly care for people. You are an amazing big brother to your little sisters and someday I know you will be a great daddy and husband.

I love that you stand up for what you believe in and don’t let others influence your opinions or beliefs. You will fight to the very end to prove your point, and while it drives me crazy sometimes, I know this will help you become a strong, independent man. Don’t ever change who you are for anyone or anything. Stay true to you and always be yourself.

I hope you know how much I love you, and how much I have always loved you. Before you were even born, I knew God had a purpose for you in my life. You have been such a blessing to your dad and me from day one and I thank God for you every day.

Thank you for always loving me and showing me grace. I couldn’t have asked for a better son.

I love you to the moon and back, sweet boy.

Love,

Mom

His reaction — “Thanks, mama! This really means a lot to me. I love you so much!”

Cue all the tears. Writing to him really made me stop and think about how blessed I am to have him as my son. It also made me realize that I should write him letters more frequently!

Yoplait Go Big Contest

My son stays very busy between academics, sports and youth group. He’s always on-the-go, so it’s important that he stays fueled with nutritious meals and snacks. Now that he is a teenager, I’ve noticed that many of the snacks that used to fill him up don’t cut it anymore.
