Concannon Conservancy Crimson & Clover Wine Review

I was recently sent a bottle of Concannon Conservancy Crimson & Clover wine to review. Not only was I excited to try a new red wine, I was also excited to try a blended wine for the first time. I was surprised to learn that this wine has a very special meaning behind it. That made receiving it even more special!

Conservancy Crimson and Clover, was created as a tribute from John Concannon to his father, Jim Concannon, the father of America’s First Petite Sirah. It was presented to him at a celebration of his 80th birthday which was held at Concannon Vineyard on July 25, 2011.

The name Crimson & Clover reflects pride in our Irish heritage; the clover is the traditional Irish symbol for prosperity and crimson pays homage to the strong, bright, deep red color of the blend. This wine is unique in the Conservancy tier as the first Petite Sirah blend and consists of 50 percent Petite Sirah, 25 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 percent Syrah and l0 percent Zinfandel. Crimson & Clover upholds the virtues of a Petite Sirah while adding rich deep berry flavors, softness and complexity. 10,000 cases will be produced.

My husband also loves red wine, so we were anxious to try the Crimson & Clover right away with dinner. We paired it with a garlic chicken pasta and it was incredible! The blend of Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Zinfandel created a smooth, yet spicy flavor. We could really taste the blackberries and clove. The distinct flavor created the perfect balance – not too dry or too sweet. Next time we try it, I think it would go great with a nice juicy steak!
At just $15 a bottle, Crimson & Clover is a great pick for any budget. I would highly recommend trying it the next time you are craving a great red wine with dinner! You can purchase it direct from the Concannon online store or you can find a local retailer near you.
