This post was written by me on behalf of Gro-ables. All opinions are 100% mine.
Last month I shared all about Scotts Gro-ables, a pre-packaged seed pod designed by Miracle-Gro that makes it incredibly easy to grow your own herbs and veggies from seed. If you’ve always wanted to try growing your own food, but have felt intimidated by the process, Gro-ables are a great option. I used them last year and had great success, so I was excited to use them again this year.
I was sent three different seed pods — Cilantro, Sweet Pepper and Basil — to plant and harvest. It’s still a little too early to plant our garden (the last frost here is usually in May), but I like to give our plants an early start so I planted our seed pods in small containers to keep indoors for now. Once the weather is nicer, I will transfer them to our raised garden bed in our backyard.
Planting the Gro-ables is super easy — if you start them indoors, you simply place the seed pod in a container filled with potting soil (I like Miracle-Gro brand the best). If you start them outdoors, you plant them directly in garden soil. Then you water them on a regular basis and wait for them to grow. It’s that easy!
My seed pods haven’t sprouted just yet, but should here in the next week. Last year every single one of ours sprouted and grew into successful plants. Miracle-Gro guarantees that they will grow (when used as directed) so I’m confident that they will do well this year too!
I absolutely love having a garden and wish that I could have one year-round. There is nothing better than being able to walk out to my backyard and pick out homegrown veggies from our garden to use in the kitchen.
One recipe that I am anxious to make with our garden veggies is Pico de Gallo. It’s so easy to make and tastes delicious with corn chips!
Homemade Pico de Gallo Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds plum tomatoes, cored, halved, and seeded (about 2 1/2 cups)
- 3/4 cup finely diced white onions
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 tablespoons minced, seeded jalapeño or serrano chiles (about 2 medium)
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
Instructions
- Cut the tomatoes into 1/4-inch chunks and place in a bowl.
- Add the remaining ingredients and stir well to combine. Cover and allow to rest at room temperature for 1 hour for the flavors to meld. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving.

I love this idea. I won't have to buy as many seeds and they end up going to waste.
