Last February my whole family came down with the flu and it was absolutely horrible! All five of us got it one after another, so it took about two weeks before we were all over it. It was a rough two weeks! I decided that we should all get the flu shot as soon as it was available in the Fall, so that hopefully we could avoid getting sick again.
The kids and I all got the shot back in October, but my husband refused. And what do you know?! He came down with the flu about a month ago and then somehow our twin girls got it too. They were all better within a week, but then the girls came down with another cold a couple weeks later. Our doctor said it was because their immune systems were down from trying to fight off too much at once. It seemed like we spent the whole month of January trying to get everyone healthy!
We are all finally back to normal (hopefully I didn’t just jinx it). I decided that from now on we are going to make more of an effort to stay healthy by incorporating more orange juice, fruit, and vitamins into our diets. We also need to make sure that we disinfect our home and cell phones with disinfecting wipes more often to keep those germs at bay.
Inspired by Safeway’s “Be Well. Save Well.” pamphlet, I headed to my local Safeway the other day to create a Cold, Cough, and Flu Kit. I wanted to purchase items that would not only help in preventing cold and flu viruses, but also to help us should we come down with something. I already had some adult vitamins, Emergen-C, and Lysol disinfecting wipes at home, but wanted to add some more items to make my kit complete.
I made sure to pick up a big jug of 100% Florida orange juice, since it’s packed with Vitamin C and really boosts your immune system. I also picked up a few other items such as Gummy Vites vitamins for the kids, Throat Coat tea, Kleenex Anti-Viral, and the ingredients needed to make our favorite Orange-Strawberry-Banana Smoothies. We’ve never tried the Kleenex Anti-Viral tissues, so I am interested in seeing if they make a difference!

I encourage you to also consider making a kit so that you are prepared the next time someone in your family comes down with a nasty bug. You can stock up on all of your favorite cold, cough, and flu essentials at Safeway or one of its affiliate stores. Make sure you stop by the Safeway pharmacy to grab a “Live Well. Save Well.” pamphlet. It contains helpful information for staying healthy, as well as some great coupons to help you save a little money on your purchase.
Take a moment to follow Safeway on Twitter and Facebook, and if you want to learn more about 100% Florida orange juice, check out the Florida Orange Juice Council website and Facebook page.

Thanks so much for the tips - my whole family is sick right now with some sort of nasty sinus infection/cold so I think I'm going to pick up a lot of these things at the store tomorrow, just to have on hand in case this happens again anytime soon, knock on wood!
