Get a Shot, Give a Shot at Walgreens

This time of year is bittersweet for me. As a kid and former teacher, I always loved shopping for new clothes and school supplies before heading back to school. Now that I have my own kids, I get to share in their excitement. It’s always a lot of fun to go back-to-school shopping, but it’s also a reminder that our carefree days spent at the pool and playing outside will be coming to end. With less than one week of summer break left, we will be doing our best to enjoy our time together in between shopping, getting sports physicals and immunizations, and attending back to school night. Thankfully, Walgreens makes going back to school a little easier!

Walgreens Healthcare Clinic

Walgreens is not only an easy stop for school supplies, but immunizations as well. Many Walgreens have Healthcare Clinics inside that offer a wide range of services such as sports physicals, immunizations, and cold & flu care. With most insurance plans accepted and no appointment necessary, it’s an easy and convenient way to get your child’s immunizations out of the way before school starts.

The great thing is every time you get an immunization for a school age child (age 7 and up) at Walgreens, you are helping them Give a Shot to a child in need. When your children get their school immunizations, like whooping cough or meningitis at Walgreens, they will help provide a life saving vaccine to a child in a developing country through the United Nation Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign. How amazing is that?

While my kids have always been fearful of getting shots, it has gotten a lot easier as they have gotten older. We have always told them that the initial poke isn’t that bad — that it will feel similar to a mosquito bite and that it will only hurt for a second. This has worked well, along with the reward of stickers or suckers for our younger two. The opportunity to Give a Shot with Walgreens has been a great way for us to encourage our kids to be brave and help other children around the world who are in desperate need of immunizations. My kids are always willing to help others, so this has been great motivation for them.

We don’t always have the funds to financially give back, so over the years we have learned to be creative in the ways that we help others. We have organized a food drive for a homeless shelter and we’ve given our time to a local organization that helps pregnant moms. The Walgreens Get a Shot, Give a Shot campaign is just another wonderful way for us to help others who are less fortunate without having to spend any extra money out of our pocket. It’s a win-win!

As you prepare for sending your kids back to school, keep Walgreens in mind. You can get all of your shopping and immunizations out of the way in one stop and help a great cause at the same time!
