We are huge Spider-Man fans, so when we received a copy of The Amazing Spider-Man in the mail last week we were all pretty excited! The movie isn’t set to be released in stores until 11/9, but we were lucky enough to get a copy of the movie early to enjoy.
My ten-year-old son was probably the most excited out of all of us. He has loved Spider-Man ever since he was a toddler. Over the years he has collected quite a few Spider-Man toys, along with all the movies. His birthday is actually on 11/9, so I thought it would be fun to give him the movie and have a family movie night filled with all things Spider-Man as an early birthday present.
The other day I surprised him with The Amazing Spider-Man movie and he couldn’t have been happier! I told him we were going to have a family movie night to celebrate and of course he thought it was a great idea.
To boost my son’s excitement even more, I downloaded the free Spider-Man Web Slinger App on my iPhone and showed him how to use it. {App can also be downloaded from Google Play for Android devices}
He had fun playing around with the web shooter and I was able to snap a headshot of him to create a custom comic book. As you can imagine, he thought it was pretty cool that he was the star of the comic!
We headed to Walmart to unlock more pages of the comic and to buy supplies for our family movie night. As we shopped around, we looked for Spider-Man merchandise and signage. We found a nice selection of toys, but not much about the movie itself. I’m sure we will see more once the movie is released!
We found these Spider-Man themed Marketside pizzas in the deli department, and I just had to pick up a couple for our movie night. The kids love pizza, but they have been more picky about toppings lately, so I decided to go with pepperoni and cheese to keep it simple. We also found some fun plates, napkins, and cups to really give our movie night the full Spider-Man effect!

Before we baked the pizza, we used the Spider-Man Web Slinger App to turn our pizza box and DVD into a 3D action scene. If you scan the DVD, Spidey comes to life. If you scan the pizza box, The Lizard comes to life. Even better — if you scan both at the same time, you enter fight mode! If you look closely, you can see Spidey and The Lizard fighting. Pretty cool, huh?!
While the pizza was baking, the kids had fun coloring these Spider-Man sheets I found online.
The pizza was delicious! I served some fresh veggies with it and the kids gobbled it all up. It was an affordable dinner and I loved that I didn’t have to cook! After dinner, we enjoyed some yummy peppermint ice cream, a seasonal favorite of ours.
The twins are too little to watch the movie, so as soon as they were in bed for the night, my husband, son and I all got comfy on the couch and watched it. We weren’t sure what to expect, since it has new actors/actresses and is basically a remake of the first movie. We were thrown off by it a bit in the beginning, but the action and special effects made it awesome! We all loved it! If you are a fan of Spider-Man, this is definitely a must-see!
The good news is you can pre-order The Amazing Spider-Man from Walmart now and it will arrive to your doorstop by 11/9. Plus, if you pre-order you will be able to download The Amazing Spider-Man from Vudu and watch the digital copy right away!
