My husband and I both love soda. We don’t drink a lot of it, we just really like it. I’m totally hooked on the carbonation, while my husband simply prefers the taste. We always have a variety to choose from in our pantry, and we usually treat ourselves to one when we go out to eat. Of course it was only fitting that we try out the newest way to drink soda and review a SodaStream machine. We received ours a few weeks ago, and have been having lots of fun making our own soda ever since!
The SodaStream is a brilliant idea. You can make sparkling water and soda in the convenience of your own home, and it’s easy enough that even a kid can do it. It’s as simple as pressurizing tap water with carbon dioxide and then adding syrup, and you’ve got your favorite fizzy drink! Plus, with no more bottles and cans wasted, it’s better for the environment!
For our review we received the Jet model starter pack. It came with everything needed to make our own sparkling water and soda: a soda maker, a 60 liter carbonator, a one liter carbonating bottle, and variety of syrups. We love how easy it is to use and how we can completely customize our soda with the exact amount of carbonation and syrup that we like.
We received a variety of sodamix syrups to try out, like Diet Cola, Ginger Ale, Root Beer, Diet Pink Grapefruit, Black Currant & Pear, Lemon-Lime, and Energy (Red Bull alternative). We also received MyWater Essence mixes to make flavored sparkling water. We’ve tried just about all of the syrups and they are all really good! They don’t taste exactly like the name brands, but they are pretty close.
I like that the regular and diet syrups don’t contain high-fructose corn syrup or aspartame. The Sparkling Naturals line is really appealing too, because the syrups don’t contain any artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, or preservatives. It’s an added bonus to be able to have great tasting soda that is also a little healthier for you!
The real appeal of the SodaStream is the value. Each bottle of sodamix makes about 12 liters of soda (about 33 cans!) for around 25 cents per 12-ounce can. It’s really hard to beat that price when purchasing a twelve pack or liter at the grocery store.
The SodaStream is a great buy. It’s easy to use, it’s convenient, it’s better for the environment, it tastes great, and it’s a great value. It’s also a lot of fun! I know we will be making a lot of soda with ours in the future!
