I think it’s safe to say that this has been one rollercoaster of a year. It’s been physically, mentally, and emotionally hard on so many of us.
I am one of those people who almost always remains calm and positive, but this year I have felt overwhelmed more days than I can count. Adding self-care to my routine has been more important than ever, as well as learning how to relieve stress and anxiety naturally.
Natural Remedies for Stress Relief
If you’re looking for natural ways to handle stress and anxiety, these are some of my favorites. Like anything, some of them may not work for you, but I encourage you to give them a try!
1. Take a Hot Bath
Adding a hot bath to your self-care routine is incredibly relaxing and one of the easiest ways to relieve stress. The hot water relaxes tense muscles, puts your mind at ease, and forces you to take a break from your day.
Taking a bath is one of my favorite ways to relax and relieve stress, but I don’t do it often enough. I like to add Epsom salt and essential oils if I’m feeling extra sore or stressed.
Exercising is a great way to relieve stress. You might think that it would make you feel tenser, but it actually has the opposite effect.
I have found that getting a great workout not only helps me feel more energized and less stressed, but it also helps me sleep better.
3. Get a Massage
Our muscles easily become tense when we are stressed or anxious, which can cause headaches or other pain. A massage is one of the best ways to physically relieve stress and improve circulation within the body.
When I get stressed I tend to raise my shoulders, which causes my back and neck muscles to become tense. I almost always end up with a horrible headache. Getting a massage — even just a quick 5-minute neck and shoulder massage from my husband — usually fixes the problem!
4. Relax with a Cup of Hot Tea
There’s something very soothing about curling up with a cozy blanket and sipping a hot cup of tea. For me, it’s incredibly relaxing and stress-relieving.
Tea is not only soothing, but it also provides numerous wellness benefits including immune support, specific vitamins and minerals (Vitamin C, zinc, etc.), sleep health, digestive health, and more.
