With wedding season just around the corner, I have been asked by several people how they can cut back on their wedding day expenses. This has made me wonder how much the average couple spends to tie the big knot. I set out to find the answer and was quite surprised with what I discovered!
So how much does the average wedding cost? I am a visual person, so I found this infographic to be very informative and insightful.

What do you think? Do you find this to be accurate? I know from my own experience that it is possible to spend WAY less than the average and still have a beautiful and memorable wedding. You don’t have to go into debt for it to be amazing!

Wow, I can't imagine a bride asking her parents to fork out that kind of money on a wedding, considering 1 of 2 marriages end in divorce! Maybe the money would be better spent on couples therapy after everyone comes back down to earth! Financing a wedding is ridiculous. It's a personal union, not a showcase. Some people are in love with the idea of a wedding, more that they are about being married to another person for the rest of their life. My husband and I got married 13 years ago and paid for it ourselves, except the photographer which his parents wanted to pay for. We got married in a beautiful historical home which the owners gave us full use of to get dressed and have the reception in. The cost?? 225.00! We got a local florist to do the tablescape and flowers because they were already use to the house and what it needed, my sister and I basically catered everything ourselves and it was fabulous. Granted she and I have a knack for that kind of thing but truly, it's not that hard to do. My cake was a staggering staircase 3 layer cake, each with it's own flavor and it cost 175.00 with delivery and set-up. A good friend who is a piano teacher played for the reception and during the ceremony, and we hired someone we knew to sing a special song. It was an evening ceremony and we didn't want everyone we had ever met to attend our wedding. Just people that we were actually close to. We had around 70 guests. All in all, it was a beautiful ceremony that I actually remember ( unlike a lot of brides who later claim they were so worried about the small stuff, they didn't remember most of the day), and we were determined to enjoy our special day. It was beautiful and we didn't go into debt to cause anyone else to do so, just to say "I do".

WOW, I totally agree with this "chart-thingy." My hubby and I estimated that we spent about $17,000 total on our wedding. My in-laws pitched in a very little, but every bit helped and I made ALL the table decorations myself. I can't believe people actually spend millions of dollars on wedding. That's insane! kimbuckjr

I just found out that I'm having a second girl in November... I know that my own wedding was close to the average and that it can be done more cheaply too because my sisters wedding was probably half the average... regardless I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with the idea of this... I'm a teacher...
